The current available reference designs on the market are based on Standard CMOS image sensors which are limited by the vast ranges of brightness levels, from low light to direct sunlight, that can black-out or wash-out a video subject. Arrow and Altera has developed a full HD WDR 3G-SDI turnkey solution based on WDR CMOS image sensors which correct this problem, but present a design challenge. The large amounts of data (up to 20 bits per color x 1.2 Mpixels at 60 frames per second) generated by these image sensors must be processed in the Image Sensor Pipeline (ISP), but are too large to be handled on-chip. Alteras Cyclone IV FPGAs have the capability to perform the intensive number-crunching algorithms that convert the raw image data into a standard digital output needed to produce a clear video image. Linear Technology

The proliferation of ultralow power wireless sensor nodes for measurement and control, combined with new energy harvesting technology, has made it possible to produce completely autonomous systems that are powered by local ambient energy instead of batteries. Powering a wireless sensor node from ambient or free energy is attractive because it can supplement or eliminate the need for batteries or wires. This is a clear benefit when battery replacement or servicing is inconvenient, costly or dangerous.

Solar inverters act as the interface between solar panels and the mains grid. Inside solar inverters, as shown in Figure 1. two power conversion processes take place. A DC/DC converter controls the operating point of the solar panel to reach maximum power output. The DC/AC converter transfers this power to the mains grid, while implementing the regulations set by the mains grid operator. The energy buffer absorbs the difference in power flow between these two converters. The success of this process depends to a large extent on the capacitors you select for the energy buffer. This article explains the tradeoffs between film and aluminum capacitor types and the factors you should consider before choosing one or the other.
