| Wi-Fi dual solutions to enable fixed-mobile convergence, says report
Fixed and mobile network operators will invest more than $450 million in
capital infrastructure over the next five years to provide fixed-mobile
convergence (FMC), according to an ABI Research study.
The report found that such will advance traffic migration to VoIP service
providers and will lead to implementation of more SiP-based services. ABI
Research forecasts that operators will globally earn $97 billion service
revenues from FMC applications in 2011, mainly from offering lower

| IC forecast up, but ASPs down
The semiconductor market continues to see steady growth, but the downward
pressure on average selling prices (ASPs) for chips are still a problem,
warned an analyst.
Analyst Satya Chillara of Pacific Growth Securities LLC projects that the
IC industry will grow 7-to-8 percent in 2006 and 8-to-10 percent in 2007.
In 2006, IC unit growth is up 18 percent. This is far above the average IC
unit growth rate, which is around 10 percent a year, according to the

Despite projections of continued robust growth, liquid crystal display
(LCD) television manufacturers face a growing threat in creeping
commoditization that is making consumers think of TVs as interchangeable
and offering no differentiating value, according to market research
analyst iSuppli Corp.
iSuppli (El Segundo, Calif.) forecasts the worldwide LCD-TV market will
grow to at a compound annual growth rate of 27.5 percent from 2005 to

PC graphics designer Nvidia Corp. reported Thursday (Nov 9) record
revenues driven by market share gains for its third quarter. However, an
ongoing investigation into backdating stock option grants may force to
company to re-state its earnings.
Nvidia's revenue hit $820.6 million in its third quarter ending Oct. 29.
That's up 19 percent over the previous quarter and 41 percent up from the
same quarter last year. Profits rose to $106.5 million from 86.7 million

In an aggressive move to fill out its product portfolio and own all the
silicon in advanced cell phones, Broadcom has announced its entry into the
application processor space and the cellular radio market. The move follows
the company's announcement of its entry into the power management market
earlier this week.
"We've pushed further in cellular space, announced we are getting into
power management business, the cellular radio business, application
processor business," President and CEO Scott McGregor told a gathering
of analysts and media here Thursday. "Those are significant

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. saw October sales stay in line with
September returns, today reporting $818 million (26.85 billion new
Taiwanese dollars) in revenue for the month.
The sales were essentially flat with TSMC's September results and showed

As expected, Intel today upped its investment in Vietnam to $1 billion.
The world's largest chip company said it will increase the size of the
assembly and test facility that it is building in Vietnam from 150,000
square feet to 500,000 square feet, the largest of the company's
assembly and test plants.
Intel said the decision was made to increase the facility's size after
an internal study determined that 500,000 square feet was the most
