      Infineon Ranked as Number One Chip Card Semiconductor Vendor for the Twelfth Year in a Row

    In its recent market report entitled “World Smart Card IC Markets,” the US market research company Frost & Sullivan confirmed that InfineonTechnologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) was the number one supplier of chip cardsemiconductors, with sales representing about one fourth of the segment’s global revenue. In 2008, Infineon’s market share was 25.5 percent of the overall chip card IC (integrated circuit) market, totaling about US $2.4 billion according to Frost & Sullivan. This is the twelfth consecutive year Frost & Sullivan researchers have named Infineon as the top supplier to this market.

      Spansion Reaches Significant Milestone Towards Completing Chapter 11 Restructuring

    Spansion Inc. announced it has reached another important milestone towards completing its Chapter 11 restructuring with the submission of a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court seeking permission to file its Plan of Reorganization without the related Disclosure Statement. Agreement has been reached on the material economic terms of the Plan of Reorganization with a consortium of holders of the company's Senior Secured Floating Rate Notes due 2013 and a committee of the company's unsecured creditors.

      NXP and Skymeter Cooperate to Develop Solution for Road Pricing

    NXP Semiconductors and Skymeter have signed a memorandum of understanding to combine the two companies’ latest solutions to offer superior road use metering technology for road user charging (RUC) and other automotive-related mobile payment markets. This collaboration will provide the RUC market with GPS-based vehicle positioning unlike anything on the market today. It will easily comply with cross-border interoperability requirements such as the European Electronic Tolling System (EETS) directive in upcoming projects in the Netherlands, France, elsewhere in Europe and the rest of the world. The cooperation will be based on NXP’s Automotive Telematics On-board unit Platform (ATOP) chipset and Skymeter’s GNSS-based Time, Distance & Place Billing Data applications and services.       Magneti Marelli and STMicroelectronics: memorandum of understanding for electronic systems and components for hybrid and electric vehicles

    Magneti Marelli and STMicroelectronics have signed a memorandum of understanding that lays the foundations for an agreement in the sector of power electronics modules and components for energy conversion electronic systems (inverter) to be fitted on hybrid and electric vehicles. The future agreement is geared toward extending to mass-produced vehicles the existing collaboration between Magneti Marelli and STMicroelectronics in Formula 1, and precisely with regards to the energy conversion system (inverter) for the KERS (the Kinetic Energy Recovery System used in Formula 1 racing).
      Numonyx to further explore the memory market and R&D facility settles in Shanghai

    Brian Harrison, President and CEO of Numonyx, visited Shanghai and said China is one of Numonyx’s biggest market with the most rapid growth. Jointly established by Intel and STMicroelectronics, two of the largest IC companies in the world, Numonyx will have a new R&D facility, which has the land scope of over 10,000m2 in FTZ, conducting the R&D of IC design, new product and new process development, software development, etc. Investment of Numonyx in Shanghai is expected to be more than ¥200 million during the following 15 years.
